With Lithium Ion battery creating a wave in the industry, it has also acquired importance for Defence utilities. A lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery is an advanced battery technology that uses lithium ions as a key component of its electrochemistry.
Indigenous development of Lithium Ion Battery for EKM class submarines is one of ambitious project of MDL in collaboration with M/s QMAX as technology partner.
Prototype battery of 50AH cells with BMS is developed & succeeded. Now 103 AH cells are being procured to upscale the prototype battery. Post analysis it has been found that it can save 25% in terms of weight & 30% by volume for submarines.
